Delicious Designs Bakery
Happy Wednesday … I’m sorry to be posting this week’s blog a day late but -life.
I am so excited to be doing my first vendor highlight post. There are so many talented wedding vendors in the Reno Lake Tahoe area and I thought it would be fun to feature one now and again on the blog so brides and grooms have a little insight into what goes into making some of Reno and Tahoe’s best vendors so super fab!
Today’s featured vendor is Leigh Anne Paige of Delicious Designs in Reno. She has been training to be a bakery owner since she was about 8 years old. Her love of cooking and baking is passed down to her from her Mom. When Leigh Anne was a little girl she would go door to door in her neighborhood with an order form to sell baked goods and then deliver them using her wagon! Talk about a born businesswoman! Probably one of the cutest dang stories I’ve ever heard and if you know Leigh Anne you can totally picture it!
Leigh Anne’s favorite thing to do while she is in the bakery is decorate cookies and meet with clients to help them make their vision a reality. Her favorite cake flavors are red velvet and strawberry. When she isn’t at work her favorite thing to do is go to Disneyland with her family! In fact, her husband recently re-proposed there for their 10 year anniversary and they will be renewing their vows this May! Leigh Anne also makes cakes, cookies, and pastries for a variety of other special events! I love the decorated cookies she makes for baby showers and smash cakes she makes for one year sessions... darling!
For those of you planning a wedding here are some things to keep in mind when choosing your wedding cake or dessert:
1. Have a realistic budget in mind when choosing your cake and keep in mind what goes into the process of creating your perfect cake. One of the special things about Delicious Designs is that she makes everything from scratch! No frozen or pre-mixed batters will be used in your desserts.
2. Go to your consult prepared. Showing up at your meeting with color swatches, ideas for the types of florals you are hoping for, flavor preferences, etc. will make the process run smoothly and allow the bakery owner to really customize the cake to you.
3. Book in advance. It is best to book your dessert vendor 6-8 months in advance to ensure availability. Leigh Anne spends about an hour on each wedding consultation and really gets to know her couples and ensures they are getting exactly what they want.
4. Take a look at what is trending and then add your own spin. Naked cakes were recently popular and can be made unique by surprising your guests with something other that the traditional buttercream by adding delicious fruit filling or caramel drippings. Currently trending are marbleized cakes and geode cakes. These can be made unique by picking a flavor that’s not so “vanilla” ;) and incorporating your wedding colors. You can also think outside the cake box with cake-pops or cookies decorated to your theme. More greenery and less blooms is also still very popular.
